Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Huntington West is blessed with many generous homeowners willing to help a neighbor in need, even a neighbor they have never met. Our Board would like to thank a trio of neighbors who stepped up to help a single mom who needed repairs to her picket fence. Many thanks to retiree Dave Lawson for volunteering to replace over 50 broken pickets on the fence. Landscaper Jose Alfaro contacted his friend and painting contractor Yulien Callazo for assistance and Yulien most graciously agreed to paint the entire fence as a gesture of friendship. We are blessed to live in a neighborhood where friends like Dave, Jose and Yulien can be counted on to donate their time and talents to help a neighbor when asked.

Dave Lawson is retired, but works almost daily to create his own lawn into one of the loveliest in Huntington West. Jose Alfaro runs his own landscaping business with a number of clients in Huntington West. Yulien Collazo owns and operates a painting business. Be sure to reach out to Jose and Yulien if you are looking for a dependable contractor.

Hello homeowners,

Heritage has received a number of reports of ballots that have still not arrived in the mail. Our Account Manager Pam Smith today sent a ballot to all homeowners who have registered an email address with Heritage. Only one ballot per homeowner will be accepted and only members of the Huntington West Homeowners Association in good standing are eligible to vote for Board officers.

Reminder: mandatory HOA fees of $525 are due May 1 and are considered late as of May 15 - late fees will be applied.

The pool is scheduled to open on Saturday, May 20 . Stay tuned to the HOA website, the Huntington West Facebook page and the message board at the entrance for more details.

Mill Creek graduation is Wednesday, May 24 at 8 pm - plan accordingly for traffic.
The HOA will post the usual graduation sign that congratulates all Huntington West grads. Any parents wishing to post individual signs must take care to post them on the corner far away from the pool’s electrical and irrigation systems on Monday, May 1 and they should be removed by Thursday, June 1.

Nominations are now open for 2023-2024 HOA Board officers. Nominations will close at 8 am on Monday, April 3. Ballots will be mailed to homeowners and will be due back to Heritage by close of business day Friday, April 21. Submit nominations to the Board via email ( board@hwhoa.org )

Mandatory 2023-2024 HOA fees will be $525 and are due May 1. Fees will be considered delinquent after May 15.

Heritage will be sending out invoices for 2023 HOA fees soon. Invoices will reflect a slight (5%) increase in mandatory HOA fees, due to rising costs from contractors , especially our pool service contractors. Fees are due May 1. Complete payment information will be included on invoice statements, but please be aware of the following changes to lockbox payment procedures.

Dear Homeowner,

The Truist lockbox is closing Friday, March 17th, 2023. If you are remitting your payment to the old Truist Lockbox, PO Box 628207. This lockbox will permanently close on March 17 ^th .

If you are using BillPay through your financial institution to make your assessment payment, please do not edit; you will need to DELETE your current BillPay instructions and establish a NEW BillPay request with the correct mailing address. Please do not edit as we have found this does not guarantee the change. Please see attached Ways to Pay for the correct processing of your payment.

If you fail to make the necessary changes to the payment remittance and it is made electronically, the payment will be denied, with a message stating that the account has been closed. It will be returned to you at that point. If your BillPay payment is processed by check, it will be forwarded to Heritage via US mail, where it will be scanned for posting to the homeowner account. Please note this will result in a delay in your assessment payment being posted to your account, which could result in late fees and interest being applied.

If you have already made the changes to your online Bill Pay to reflect Alliance bill pay information, you do not need to make any changes.

Tennis Court Update

The sinkhole under our tennis courts has been repaired twice, yet continues to sink. As a result, there is a noticeable dip between the two courts and visible cracks in the playing surface. Based on feedback from homeowners at the last two annual HOA meetings and the recommendations of our HOA's attorney, the Board has deferred a decision on future repairs until negotiations with Gwinnett County are finalized. Our attorney is in the process of negotiations with the County for the purchase of HOA property required for widening Hwy 124. A membership vote will be required to determine the future of our tennis courts. For now, the tennis courts will remain open for recreational play,

albeit with less-than-ideal conditions.

Heads Up For Homeowners

The area around the storm drain cover located on the HOA common area at the corner of Green Gables Trace and Gray Gables Way has been cordoned off by the Gwinnett Department of Water Resources. A routine inspection by a Gwinnett County storm drain contractor indicated a developing sinkhole around the metal pipe that runs from the storm drain to the creek. The bottom of the metal pipe has rusted out. Gwinnett DWR will scope the pipe liner in the next few weeks to determine the next steps. Our Board has been informed DWR hopes it will be possible to reline the metal pipe, as opposed to digging it up and replacing it. Either way, we have been warned the design analysis is likely to be a lengthy process. Projects are categorized from emergency status, high priority all the way to low priority. Our damage has been determined to be low to moderate priority, so it is likely to be some time into next year before it is repaired. Unfortunately, the corner will need to remain cordoned off until repaired, for safety. DWR supervisors have advised our Board that although the pipe is compromised, the ground around the marked area is currently stable. However, the situation could change after a period of heavy rains. Our Board members and property owners adjacent to the corner will need to monitor conditions for any changes and notify DWR of any concerns. In the interim, parents should ensure children and pets steer clear of the area, just to be on the safe side.

Seating in the Community Room is also limited, so the HOA will stream the meeting on our Huntington West Facebook page. HEADS UP for homeowners in Phase Two, Phase Three and Phase Four: an Open House is scheduled for the Fullwood home located at 1935 Huntington Hill Trace. The Open House will be on Saturday from 1-3 pm. Homes for sale in Huntington West generate a great deal of interest from potential buyers. This ranch home on a basement will most likely draw a lot of interest and we expect a number of cars. The location of the Fullwood home so close to the 3-way stop presents a difficult situation for drivers.

Our Board has asked the realtor to post a sign and request that visitors park on the opposite side of the street (on the 1920-1930 side) and as far away from the STOP sign as possible. She has indicated she understands the concern and will do her best to cooperate. Hopefully, this will assist drivers approaching the STOP sign at the 3-way stop from the back of the neighborhood. Please use caution when approaching the intersection of Green Gables Trace and Huntington Hill Trace. Please be sure to extend patience and courtesy to other drivers and especially to visitors who may very well become our neighbors. Our thoughts are still with Bill Fullwood's family since his recent passing. We hope to be able to assist them to host a successful Open house in an effort to find a new owner for his lovely home.

The Annual Membership Meeting of the Huntington West Homeowners Association has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 20 - 7 PM at Station 18. Seating is limited in the Station 18 Community Room, so our Board plans to livestream the meeting again this year on Facebook page. Our HOA’s attorney has received an initial offer from Gwinnett County for the property they will need to acquire for widening Hwy 124 at our entrance. Our Board will be conferring with our attorney on negotiating the best outcome for our HOA and will share details at the meeting. Stay tuned to Facebook and hwhoa.org for details on how to stream the meeting.

Our friends at Fire Station 18 will be conducting a smoke detector blitz in Huntington West on Saturday, September 10. Starting at 9 am, firefighters and other team members from Community Risk and Reduction will be going door to door to check the safety of smoke detectors. If any are found to be out of date or not to be in working order, the team will either replace them or recommend replacement options. A similar blitz was conducted on Gables Place last year, so there will hopefully be ample time to reach the rest of the neighborhood on Saturday.

The last day to swim will be Sunday, September 25 and then our pool will be closed for the season.

Our covenants inspector reports an increase in the number of violations for leaving grass clippings in the street after mowing. Perhaps some mowing fatigue has set in at the end of summer and now some early leaves have begun to fall as well. A reminder: homeowners are expected to keep lawns edged cleanly at the street and to clean up grass clippings, leaves and other debris from the street after each mowing. Grass clippings left in the street result in unsightly clumps of grasses or weeds that should be removed from the cracks between the pavement and the curb. More importantly, grass clippings and leaves are a danger to our water system if left in the street to flow into the storm drains.

The Board has received some safety concerns about basketball goals placed in the street. Per Gwinnett County Code, basketball goals are prohibited from being positioned in any County right-of-way. If your family owns a basketball goal, it must be in your own driveway or on your own lawn adjacent to your driveway - it may not be placed in the street, not even on a cul de sac.

Speaking of safety: our Board continues to hear reports of drivers not following traffic laws at our neighborhood’s STOP signs. Please remember to come to a complete stop at all posted STOP signs to protect our children, walkers and of course other drivers.

Our HOA would like to thank AKA Tree Service for “doing a solid” for our homeowners in Phase Four. Trees on the common area at the intersection of Green Gables and Gray Gables had grown to a point that tree limbs were obscuring the STOP sign at the end of Gray Gables Way. AKA Tree Service crews on Gray Gables for a job for an individual homeowner offered to cut back the tree limbs at no cost to the HOA. Thanks to AKA Tree Service for providing this community service for our homeowners so the STOP sign is clearly visible now. Thanks also to our neighbor Bill Daniels for following up after AKA to manicure the remaining tree limbs very nicely!

Billy Fullwood Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Billy Gene Fullwood, 88, of Buford, GA, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 6, 2022 at home after a lengthy illness.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Harris Fullwood; his sister, Betty Sue Chadwick. He is survived by his brother, Benny Fullwood and wife Leba Fullwood of Lakeland, GA; children, Wade Fullwood and wife Angela Fullwood of Lexington, SC; Clay Fullwood and wife Leila Fullwood of Austin, TX; Todd Fullwood and husband Alexander Williams of Saint Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Payton Fullwood; Michael Fullwood; Wade Tyler Fullwood; and Jaden Fullwood.

Billy was born on November 27, 1933 in Clinch County, GA to William Hobson and Dorothy Harnage Fullwood. Shortly after graduating high school in 1950, He joined the Air Force serving in France, twice in Germany, and several state-side locations. He retired in 1972 after 20-years of military service as a Senior Master Sargent. Afterwards, he became part owner of a television repair and sales shop in San Antonio, TX. In 1973, he left the television repair business and joined Tucker Electronics in Garland, TX. In 1977, he moved to Snellville, GA to become vice president of Electro Rent where he worked until retirement in 1990. In retirement, Billy stayed busy tracing Fullwood genealogy and sharing the family stories. He enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, cooking and baking pound cakes for friends and family. Billy never lost his desire for knowledge, working on his iPad and iPhone to find answers to any and all questions. Billy was a life-long sports fan, specifically playing baseball in his childhood years. As a true Georgia sports fan, Billy loved watching the Atlanta Braves, Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs.

Billy will be laid to rest at 1:00pm Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

The plumbing contractors are hopeful all the work can be completed within the one day window, but please be aware the repairs may take a little longer once they determine the source of the leaks - please plan accordingly.

Celebrate Memorial Day next month

Just in time to celebrate Memorial Day next month, we have been able to replace our tired and visibly worn US flag with a brand new one. Many thanks to our neighbor and ACC member Linda Luttrell for donating a beautiful new flag she was unable to use at her home - thanks, Linda! Our HOA Board would also like to say a great big “Thank you!” to another neighbor Mike Jones for volunteering to climb up on his tall ladder to hang the new flag on the entrance monument. Mike works for a roofing company and is licensed/insured for roofing projects, but he is also available in the neighborhood to clean gutters and many other handyman projects such as light fixtures, faucets, cabinets and many other non-structural jobs.

Vandalism in our Community

A group of young men drove into our neighborhood early this morning (2:19 am) and parked next to our playground. They walked down Huntington Hill Trace and tore up some mailboxes on the top half of Huntington Hill Trace. HOA President Paula Nelson has captured footage of the car and the individuals, but our cameras at the pool don't capture tag numbers. Please review the 3 attached video clips and contact Paula (404-483-9159) if you have any information that will help to identify the individuals. If you live on the top end of Huntington Hill Trace (1930 - 2155) and have any video footage from your own cameras, please email it to the board ( board@hwhoa.org ) The vandals left the neighborhood in the same vehicle at 2:37 am.

Paula has contacted GCPD for their guidance. The HOA will assist the individual homeowners impacted to submit their own police reports, if we can help to identify the individuals who chose to vandalize Huntington West homes as part of their spring break activities. Thankfully, this kind of activity is extremely rare in our neighborhood. It should serve as yet another reminder to keep vehicles locked and keep garage doors closed.

Obituary for Harvey R Moriarty

Harvey R. Moriarty, 79, of Buford, GA passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. He was preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Moriarty; son, Sean Moriarty and his wife Mary Moriarty; and sister, Bonnie Moriarty. Mr. Moriarty is survived by his wife, Elyse Moriarty of Buford; children, Erroll Moriarty and Quinn Moriarty; five step children, Matt and Steve Taylor, who he lovingly referred to as his boys and his best friends; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harvey also leaves behind his two fur babies, Lucy and Bunny. Harvey was blessed with many artistic talents and was a true patriot. He was born on May 18, 1942 in Butte, Montana where he was raised. In later years, he settled in the Atlanta area. Harvey was a well-known local artist and was famous for his breathtaking water color paintings. He also was a well-known jeweler, and loved to work with silver and turquoise and other gem stones. Prior to retiring, he was the owner to The Royal Shutter Shop where he made custom mantels and shutters for the high-end homes in the Atlanta area. Harvey and his late wife owned and enjoyed working on a farm in the Buford area. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Steve Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Hoschton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 9 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, April 10 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Yvonne Harris of Buford, Georgia, who passed away on January 21, 2022 at the age of 79. Just as soon as Republic had finally gotten somewhat back on track, then the winter weather hit earlier this week. Republic’s website reflects our neighborhood’s schedule is back on track for trash collection, with recycling scheduled for every other week. According to the published schedule, our next recycling pick-up is scheduled for January 28. The message on Republic’s website indicates property owners will be notified on Thursday evenings if there will be a change to recycling on Friday. Be sure you have listed your phone number on your account with Republic so you can receive text messages or phone calls in the event of a schedule change.

A call to Republic today indicated they are on a one-day delay this week, due to the snow on Monday. Our best guess is that our (trash only) collection will be delayed until Saturday, but we cannot be certain due to mixed messages from Republic’s own communications. Our covenants inspector will not be citing any individual homeowners if trash cans (only) are left out on Friday and on Saturday. Please remove cans from the street at least by Saturday, depending on collection. Recycling cans should not be left out until Friday, January 28.

Two Gwinnett County solid waste haulers, Republic Services and Waste Management are temporarily suspending certain collection services due to a surge in COVID-19 infections among their workforces.

Republic Services and Waste Management customers will be impacted by service interruptions differently. Here’s how:

Republic Services has resumed limited recycling services based on staff availability. Republic will notify customers on the evening prior to recycling to inform customers that recycling will be serviced the next day. At this time pickup of bulky items and yard waste remains suspended in order to prioritize trash collection while its workforce is limited. During this temporary service interruption, Republic Services customers in Gwinnett County may continue to take their recycling, bulky items, or household trash to a drop-off site at one of the following locations at no cost to the customer:

Recyclable Materials Only – 75 Curtis Road, Lawrenceville, GA (Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 6:00pm)
Household Trash/Bulky Items – 51 Patrick Mill Road SW, Winder, GA (Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 4:00pm; Saturday 6:00am – noon)

Our Board members are frustrated, as we know all of you are, with the ongoing service failures of our trash hauler, Republic. Our Board has continued to document the service failures with Gwinnett County each week. We also ask each homeowner to take the time to report the failures for your own individual property address in order to create the documentation Gwinnett County says they will need to hold Republic accountable for the repeated failures.

While the issues Republic is dealing with are understandable to some degree, Gwinnett County has collected a mandatory fee from each of us for a waste removal service we are not receiving. Our Board will be making a formal request to Gwinnett Solid Waste Management for prorated refunds for every Huntington West homeowner for each week there has been no trash or recycling service. Refer to your own individual tax bill for the fees charged, if you want to make your own individual request for a refund.

The covenants in Huntington West require trash cans and recycling bins to be stored in a location not visible from the street, except on our scheduled trash collection day (Friday). Homeowners are expected to put cans out in the street only on Friday and to remove them on Friday, after the trash and recycling has been collected. The Board has received questions and concerns about covenants inspections conducted during this period of lapse in service from Republic. Our covenants inspector at Heritage has been advised of the situation and will coordinate with the Board on the delays in scheduled pickup from Republic. As you will see from the notice below, Republic does not intend to even attempt to collect our recycling until the week of January 11. We understand many of you also have large cardboard boxes and other overflow packaging on the street from Christmas and Republic’s failure to collect recycling for (now) three full weeks, but an effort must be made to keep our neighborhood streets clear.

The trash was finally collected yesterday (albeit three days late), so please remove empty trash cans from view. Please also remove recycling cans from the street and only put them back out for what we hope will be collection as promised on Friday, January 14. Please make sure any overflow such as cardboard boxes and such are removed from the street to be placed back out for pickup on January 14. The high winds and rains over the weekend made a mess of some stacks of recycling, so please be sure to clean up any scattered debris on the street.

NOTE: the computer generated notice below referred to “next scheduled service day” but refers to January 11, which is a Tuesday. A Board member called and spoke to a supervisor at Republic who verified the trash pickup for our neighborhood’s route is scheduled to resume this coming Friday, January 7. However, she verified our RECYCLING pickup is not scheduled to resume until FRIDAY, JANUARY 14.

Rest assured our HOA will continue to press Gwinnett County for a resolution to this issue and for reimbursement of the fees we have paid for services not provided. Please continue to direct any questions to the Board ( board@hwhoa.org ) and do all you can to keep our streets neat and free of scattered debris, etc. during this period of uncertainty with our trash hauler Republic.

Due to severe COVID issues, all recycling, bulk and yard waste routes are not running this week. This will allow us? to focus attention on solid waste pickup.

We do not have the resources to recover these routes and will try to resume service on the next scheduled service day, 1/11/21.

If any customer has trash accumulated and they would like to take it to one of our landfills or hauling facilities, they may do so at no charge. There are containers available at each location.

Obituary for John E. "Bill" Phinazee Jr.

John Emmett Phinazee, Jr. (Bill)

John Emmett Phinazee, Jr. died peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2021, loved and cherished by his family. He was born in Forsyth, GA on February 22, 1928, the son of John Emmett Phinazee and Frances Rumble Phinazee, and was 93 years of age. He was a graduate of Mary Persons High School and attended Gordon Military College.

From January 1947 to September 1960, he was employed as a clerk in the post office at Forsyth, GA. During the period 1950 through 1953 he served in the U.S. Air Force in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. On September 17, 1960, he was appointed to the position of United States Postal Inspector, having territory assignments in Johnstown and Altoona Pennsylvania and Greensboro, N.C. On June 30, 1971 he was transferred to Atlanta, GA where he specialized in the investigation of major mail fraud cases. He retired from the Postal Service on January 9, 1981 with 34 years of federal service.

From 1981 to 1986 he was employed as a Securities Investigator by the Georgia State Securities Commission. In 2005, he co-authored a book with another retired Postal Inspector titled Moments in Time (True Stories of the United States Postal Inspectors). He was a member of the National Association of Retired Postal Inspectors, the Korean War Veterans Association, The American Legion and the Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church where he was active in Operation Soldier Support, a program sponsored by the church to support our troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan with cards, letters and care packages, as well as any emergency needs of their families, and veterans at home.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maxine Jordan Phinazee, Buford, GA; two daughters: Kathy Phinazee Bullock (Greg), Loganville, GA and Kimberly Phinazee, Cumming, GA.; two granddaughters: Mallory Brickley Thounhurst, (Andrew), Good Hope, GA; Erin Brickley, Pensacola, FL; two great grandsons Bryson Andrew Thounhurst and John Brantley Thounhurst; a great granddaughter, Adara Quinn Bullard; and nephew Roger L. Kraft (Judy), of Manchester, TN.

A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers he requested that contributions be made to the Northeast Georgia Veterans Shelter (neghvs.org) in Winder, GA, or to Wreaths Across America (www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.) for Christmas Wreaths for veterans’ grave sites at the Georgia National Cemetery.

A message from our friends at Station 18

Greetings and Merry Christmas to our wonderful neighbors from Huntington West! We are just a few days away from Christmas and it reminds me to pause to reflect on how fortunate to work in this community and feel the genuine warm embrace all of you have showered us over the years. So, with that being said, it was so refreshing to tour your community and observe all of the hard work put into decorating for Christmas.

An effort was put into trying to establish judging criteria and rank order. This is in no way meant to minimize the effort everyone puts into their homes. So, here is the best way we could pick the top three decorated homes:

Judging will be based on the following criteria:

Theme – Christmas
Creativity (originality, unique design, and creative use of lights and decorations),
Arrangement (display and placement of decorations),
Overall Appearance (color coordination, balance, and overall attractiveness)
Special Effects (sound effects, animation, etc.)

Magnificent Ryan Everett Rojas was born In Covina, California on May 27, 1987. Everyone who knew Ryan undoubtedly has many great memories of time spent with him in their heart. That is where he is now, in our hearts and in heaven with Jesus Christ his savior and king.

As we, his family, mourn his loss, we recall that even as a baby and young boy he was mischievous and funny. In his highchair he would dump his leftover food on his head. He would wear his little plastic sunglasses upside down and he always had to have a hat on or a cape so he could fly. Peter Pan was his favorite character and he spent hours jumping off the couch arms into the cushions placed on the floor. Ryan had a fearless love of adventure and travel. He was happiest when he could do things full throttle. Put him on a jet ski and he would take off, doing flips and spins, unable to get the thrill from just riding it.

He could never get enough, insatiable in his thirst for fun and happiness, he loved everything. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his pets, sports, music, food, and beer. He was especially inspired by and loved God’s amazing world of nature and “natural beauty”. He traveled back and forth from New York to California many times and loved it every time whether he was on the road solo with just his trusty beagle to keep him company or with friends, or family.

Always the life of the party Ryan drew people in and he made friends wherever he went, whatever he did. He loved people! Ryan lived life by the seat of his pants at times. In one of his writings he said this after a risky drive to California: “I guess what I should have learned from this experience is to be more prepared, but I didn’t. What I did learn is not to worry so much because whatever is supposed to happen will happen whether you think it is supposed to happen or not.”

Ryan pursued many things in his life, playing the guitar, filmmaking in New York City, underwater diving to become an underwater electrician. When he was in fourth grade he interviewed the school psychologist and decided it would be a great career for him because he would so love to help people by listening to them and understanding them. Ryan also wanted to be an actor and took a semester at Broome Community College in theater. He had a great singing voice and took vocal music that semester. He also had a writing class during that semester in which he excelled. Throughout the years his writing took a back seat to other things, but recently this year, he had been going through his written works and had developed a keen interest in rekindling his love of writing. This was one of his goals for the future as was traveling with his brother and sister, family and friends to see baseball games, concerts and new places.

Ryan’s greatest achievement and one both he and we were most proud of was him becoming a Medical Specialist (Medic) in the United States Army, fearlessly representing his country in Afghanistan. Known by his comrades as “Doc” he not only healed the physical wounds but provided comedic relief and a bit of rabble rousing fun to his unit as you can read from his friends tributes on his Facebook page Ryan Rojas. He was always about lifting others up. That was just his way.

His brother Jason and sister Lydia were his heroes. He spent most of his time this year walking parks, running and working out with Jason. He was very proud of his sister for getting her nursing degree and had recently decided to follow in her footsteps to become a nurse. He has just started back at a private online college in the weeks preceding his untimely passing and he was so glad to be reading and learning again.

Most significantly about Ryan’s life was his undying love for God, through Jesus Christ and in the past two months, I have witnessed Ryan reading his Army Bible every day for almost an hour. It has been an amazing thing to see and comforts me now. Ryan had many significant disappointments in his life but through each he remained faithful to God, hopeful and ready to start over again. His faith was incredible, though at times he thought he was too much of a sinner to make it to Heaven. I assured him that Jesus wants the sinners, loves the sinners, saves the sinners. You should know that too. Ryan would want you to know, there is always hope as long as you know Jesus. Ryan is with Him now. How great that is! I believe if Ryan had stayed here longer he would have become a published writer and that he would have found his career in service to people, using all the skill sets he had pursued along the way and including his sufferings and pain and drawing from his amazing ability to love and accept people for exactly who they are and where they are at. Here are some of Ryan’s own words that if you follow, you will most surely live a better, happier life. This was written 04/05/07:

“To make this world better, we need to care about each other; but we must not just say it, we must mean it. You must have an interest in people. You can’t just persecute someone and expect to get a good reaction from them. You have to get on the same page. You have to get inside of yourself and find something you can connect on and you have to be genuine for the reasons you are doing it. You have to consider their past and the people involved in their life. When a person is born, they are free from sin. One of the only things that doesn’t change about the person throughout their lifetime, is their eyes. So, I can tell when I look into someone’s eyes if there is still at least some good in them. Understanding is to not retaliate when somebody does something that gets on your last nerve, but to instead try to think about why they might have done it. Understanding is putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and trying to feel who the person is. Understanding is not getting mad at someone just because they have a completely different look on things than you.”

In closing, more of Ryan’s own words dated 1/22/07:

“I don’t know how people see me because I am not them, but if I had to guess how they see me I would say they see me as friendly and fun to be with: a good friend. People like to be around me and the reason I know this is that my house is always filled with lots of my friends and I always have many calls waiting for me on the answering machine from friends who want to get together. My friends most likely see me as happy-go-lucky, fun loving and someone who values them and listens to their problems. This is true, but there is more to me, more to what I am about. I have serious goals and plans for my life which I yearn to make into reality. The fun loving, good listening part of me wants to be that and more and inside me there waits a writer, longing to come out. Someday, I will accomplish all my goals. I’m sure you have to be a pretty good writer to become a Psychologist, so it’s good that both of these goals go together. I hope to fulfill my goals by writing a book about my life someday so that people can read it and say, “this guy had a pretty cool life and he was a great guy!”

So maybe you didn’t get to write a physical book Ryan, but your amazing life was your story. You did listen to, understand and love all of us! So, in a very significant, real, and wonderful way you did accomplish your goal, because yes Ryan, you had a pretty cool life and you were/are a great guy! We are so proud of you Ryan Everett Rojas! We love you forever!

Andrew “Andy” Mitcham, age 63, of Buford, GA, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sandra B. Mitcham of Buford, Ga; children Brittany Mitcham and Brendon Mitcham (Maddie) of Buford, GA; brothers, Jeff Mitcham (Carolyn) of Knoxville, TN, Steve Mitcham of Atlanta, GA, Mike Mitcham (Marsha) of Dallas, GA; step sister, Rhonda Zartman (Dan) of Panama City Beach, FL; step brother, Steven James of Tampa, FL; father-in-law, Jack Benthall of Hilton Head, SC; brothers-in-law, Rick Benthal (Diane) of Florence, SC, Jack Benthall, Jr., of Columbia, SC; step-brothers, Anthony James of Tampa, FL, Phillip James (JoBeth) of Royston, GA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Mitcham was born on April 10, 1958 in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from Pebble Brook High School in 1976 and was employed by Hewlett Packard Co. Mr. Mitcham was an avid Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Braves fan. He loved history and automobiles. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Nashville TN in memory of Andy Mitcham.

Our Neighborhood Suffered Another Loss

It is with heavy hearts that we must let you know our neighborhood has incredibly suffered another loss.

Andy Mitcham, an original Huntington West homeowner, and a former HOA President passed away early Friday morning. The memorial service for Andy is not yet scheduled but will be sometime after Thanksgiving. A meal train has been set up for meals this week and for after Thanksgiving. INDEPENDENCE DAY - MONDAY, JULY 5, 2021

Residential Cart - Service will run one day behind throughout the holiday week, beginning with services scheduled for the holiday.

Business Dumpster - Service scheduled on the holiday will be collected one day later. Scheduled customers for the rest of the week anticipate regular service day or one day later.

Roll-off (Industrial) - Service scheduled on the holiday will be collected one day later. Scheduled customers for the remainder of the week will receive service as normally scheduled.

There will be no collection on Independence Day. Service will run one day late. Monday customers will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday customers on Wednesday.
